Today we did a proper introduction of New Zealand to Scott. We took him to Waitomo and let him experience the 'underworld' of New Zealand. The adventure starts by 'absieling' (repelling) down a tiny hole in the ground that drops about 100' into a cave system that goes for miles.

After the initital descent, you have to traverse across an underground canyon on what is called a 'Flying Fox'. It's a device similar to what they traverse the treetops in Costa Rica, only it's pitch black when you do it underground. After this,a we rode intertubes down the underground river in freezing cold water, before hiking for about 1/4 mile and then literally climbing up the waterfalls that feed the underground river system.

Taking cameras underground was not possible without totally destroying them, but I did get a few shots of Val and Scott getting ready to go. Check these photos out for an idea of what we were doing.

All in all, it was a pretty fun introduction to New Zealand for Scott!

Special message to Ken Kane: We respectfully request that the Kommissionar of the Island consider and approve the requested name change of 'Florida Fox' to 'Flying Fox' and attach this photo to his place on the Island website!
